Dr. James L. Johnson has been the Director of Spiritual Programming at Honey Lake Clinic in Greenville, FL, since 2020. He and his team use empirically proven spiritual care methods to treat spiritual trauma, soul wounds, and moral injury, develop a sound worldview, and better understand personal identity. He spent over 17 years in the field of education, serving as a classroom instructor and school administrator. While working in education, he also spent 13 years serving as an Associate Pastor. He is a chaplain in the United States Army Reserves, where he has served for over 16 years.
His civilian education includes an Associate Degree from North Florida College, a Bachelor’s Degree from Florida State University, a Master of Divinity from Liberty University, and a Doctor of Ministry from Wesley Theological Seminary. His doctoral research was focused on using Narrative Therapy to treat Moral Injury. His military education contains certifications in Clinical Pastoral Education, Combat Life Saving, and being a Master Resiliency Trainer. He graduated from Army Initial Military Training as an honor graduate, graduated from the Army Human Resource Specialist course, the Army Chaplain Officer course, the Army Chaplain Captain Career Course, and the Army Combat Medical Ministry course.
Chaplain (Major) James Johnson is currently the Brigade Chaplain at the 332nd Medical Brigade in Nashville, TN. Other highlights from his military career include being Senior Medical Chaplain for Army Central Command in 2019-2020 while deployed to the Middle East in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Spartan Shield. During that time, he created training systems to instruct Unit Ministry Teams on providing religious support in traumatic situations such as mass casualty events, active combat operations, and end-of-life care on the battlefield. He also served as the Senior Medical Chaplain in Germany in support of Operation Saber Strike in 2018 and in Poland in support of Operation Maroon Surge in 2018.
